Lotts first stint as a head coach came in 1929 with Valley Head. The next season he took over at Anniston where he would spend the next 14 seasons. His teams compiled a record of 91-22-11 and in 1984, the football stadium in Anniston was named "Chink" Lott Memorial Stadium.

Following an interruption for World War II he accepted the head coaching position at Demopolis in 1947. Lotts 1951 squad won a State Championship as awarded by the Birmingham News with a 9-0 record. Lott remained with the Demopolis program until his retirement following the 1957 season.

Coach Lott served as athletic director and coached all sports at both schools. In 26 years as a head coach none of his teams finished a season with a losing record.

A resolution was presented in memory of Coach Lott by the Demopolis City Council on July 6, 1989, attesting not only to his outstanding sports record on the field, baseball diamond and basketball court, but to the fact that he had become legendary in the arena of high school athletics for his ability to lead and mold the lives of young men by teaching the concepts of hard work, perseverance and pride, and in translating these concepts from the football field to the larger field of life itself.
